Hello,
For those of you who don't know who Rosie is, I am the daughter of Stephen & Jane Adkins who own the farm, and the wife of Nathan Jeffries who created this lovely website for us! I am a fully qualified teacher working part time in a local junior school from Wednesday to Friday each week. The other part of my time is spent here on the farm, predominantly looking after the sheep and the hens (also pottering around on a tractor when allowed).
I would like to update you on the farm bits that have been going on since last Friday.
In January, Jane and I undertook a 2 day course run by FACE (farming and countryside education). On Friday we received certificates to confirm our success in the Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme. This is very exciting as this is another step towards being ready to set up an educational centre on the farm. Since then I have also put together some activity plans which we aim to post on the website soon.
On Saturday Nathan and I put the dozen hens, which had been cooped up since destroying the grass in November, back out into their larger pen to allow them to roam free once again! We then set up the honesty box at the top of the lane for passers by to buy some eggs. ONLY £1 A BOX - such a bargain. If ever you are passing please don't hesitate to stop by.
Finally, just an update on the sheep. Today we put the lambs through the foot-bath to cleanse their hooves and keep their feet in good condition. I aim to foot-bath them weekly from this point on to prevent any foot problems.
That is all from me for now, I hope you enjoyed reading my first ever blog - I look forward to keeping you updated.
